The Sonnet Presto 10GBASE-T 2-Port PCIe Card is Sonnet part number G10E-2X-E3, currently marketed by Sonnet as the Twin10G 10GBASE-T PCIe Card. It provides two copper 10Gb Ethernet interfaces for high-bandwidth shared storage, media workflows and other demanding network applications.
The card uses standard RJ45 network connections, allowing straightforward integration with 10GbE switches and storage using conventional copper Ethernet cabling.
Two 10GBASE-T ports provide up to 10Gb/s connectivity per port. The card also supports 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for connection to compatible lower-speed infrastructure.
Sonnet specifies 10GBASE-T operation up to 100 metres with Cat 6A cable and up to 55 metres with Cat 6 cable. Gigabit Ethernet can operate up to 100 metres using Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 6A cabling.
The dual-port design supports link aggregation where the connected switch or router and operating system configuration support teaming. Transparent failover can help maintain connectivity if one cable is disconnected or one port becomes unavailable.
Hardware networking features include checksum offloading, TCP segmentation offload, receive-side scaling, interrupt coalescing and multicast filtering, helping reduce host CPU involvement during demanding network transfers.
The card supports jumbo frames with a maximum packet size of 15,872 bytes, useful on suitably configured high-performance storage and media networks.
The low-profile PCIe card installs in a compatible computer PCIe slot and can also be used in supported Sonnet Thunderbolt-to-PCIe expansion systems when a host computer does not provide an internal PCIe slot.
