The Symply LTO-7 Ultrium Data Cartridge Tape provides removable LTO-7 storage for professional backup, archive and long-term offline data retention. Symply identifies this exact product as SKU SYMED-IBM-38L7302, corresponding to IBM LTO-7 media part number 38L7302.
The cartridge offers 6TB native capacity and up to 15TB compressed capacity using the standard 2.5:1 LTO compression assumption. It is the standard rewritable data cartridge rather than the separate LTO-7 WORM variant.
The cartridge stores 6TB of uncompressed data and supports up to 15TB compressed capacity where the data and backup application achieve the standard 2.5:1 LTO compression ratio.
Symply and IBM specify Barium Ferrite (BaFe) media for this LTO-7 cartridge. The LTO-7 format uses a 960 metre tape path and 3,584 data tracks.
IBM part number 38L7302 is the standard rewritable LTO-7 data cartridge. It is distinct from IBM part number 38L7303, which is the LTO-7 WORM cartridge.
LTO media provides removable offline storage that can be separated from primary disk or flash systems, making it suitable for backup, archive and offsite retention workflows.
IBM specifies an LTO-7 native transfer rate of up to 300MB/s. Actual throughput depends on the tape drive, host system, software, data characteristics and sustained source performance.
Symply's current compatibility guidance lists LTO-7 media as read/write compatible with SymplyPRO LTO-7 and SymplyPRO LTO-8 drives.
