The Sonnet Allegro Max USB-C 20Gbps 1-Port PCIe Card, part number USB3C-1M20G-E, is designed to add full-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connectivity to compatible Mac, Windows and Linux systems.
It targets high-performance external SSD workflows where conventional 5Gbps or 10Gbps USB connections can limit available storage performance.
The single USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 at up to 20Gbps and remains compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2, Gen 1, USB 3.1, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 devices.
With a suitable USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 SSD, Sonnet specifies support for transfer performance up to approximately 2,000MB/s, subject to the drive, host and workload.
The low-profile card uses a PCI Express 3.1 x4 host interface and requires an available x4-capable PCIe slot for full operation.
The ASMedia 3242 controller provides native USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 support, with UASP support for compatible storage devices and hot-pluggable device operation.
Sonnet supports appropriate USB-C 20Gbps and USB4 cables as well as short Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 cables when used purely for USB connectivity. Thunderbolt-only peripherals are not supported.
Both full-height and low-profile mounting brackets are included, allowing installation in a range of workstation and desktop chassis.
