The Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCIe Card provides four independent M.2 NVMe SSD positions on a full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 card. It is designed for workstations, servers and compatible Thunderbolt-to-PCIe expansion systems where high sustained storage bandwidth and multiple NVMe drives are required.
An integrated PCIe bridge allocates four PCIe 3.0 lanes to each installed SSD, so the host computer does not need to support PCIe bifurcation. SSDs are supplied separately and may be installed individually or combined using supported software RAID configurations.
Four Independent NVMe SSD Slots
Four M-keyed sockets accept M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe SSDs. Current hardware supports both single-sided and compatible double-sided SSDs, allowing total installed capacity of up to 32TB with suitable drives.
PCIe 3.0 x16 Architecture
The card uses a PCI Express 3.0 x16 host interface and integrated x16 PCIe bridge. Four PCIe 3.0 lanes are dedicated to each installed SSD, avoiding the bandwidth-sharing limitations found on simpler passive M.2 adapter cards.
No PCIe Bifurcation Required
The onboard PCIe bridge makes the card self-contained, so operation does not depend on motherboard PCIe bifurcation support. This broadens compatibility across supported Mac, Windows and Linux systems with a suitable full-length x16 slot.
High Sustained Storage Performance
With four suitable NVMe SSDs configured as RAID 0, Sonnet currently quotes sustained transfer performance of up to 14,000MB/s under its specified Mac Pro benchmark configuration. Actual performance varies with SSD model, drive count, host architecture and RAID configuration.
Silent SSD Cooling
A custom silent cooling system transfers heat away from the installed SSDs to help prevent thermal throttling during sustained high-volume transfers, without relying on a noisy card-mounted fan.
Software RAID Support
RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10 configurations are supported under compatible macOS, Windows and Linux environments. RAID 5 under macOS requires third-party software such as SoftRAID.
Single-SSD Boot Support
Booting from a single non-RAIDed attached SSD is supported on compatible systems, including supported Mac configurations and Windows or Linux computers with UEFI BIOS.
Thunderbolt Expansion Compatibility
The card can also be installed in a compatible Thunderbolt PCIe expansion system with a full-length x16 slot, providing access to as many as four NVMe SSDs through the expansion system's Thunderbolt connection.

Generally, next working day delivery services (UK Mainland) are available on standard Sonnet Technology Delivery orders placed before 2 pm (subject to stock availability).
Non-timed deliveries should be delivered between 9 am and 6 pm.
