IBM advises cleaning an Ultrium drive when the drive requests cleaning rather than on an arbitrary schedule. The cartridge's LTO cartridge memory tracks usage and the cartridge expires after 50 uses.
IBM identifies 35L2086 as the universal LTO Ultrium cleaning cartridge. It is suitable for the LTO-6 through LTO-10 generations specified for this Rent a Raid product.
IBM specifies the cleaning cartridge for 50 uses. An expired cartridge should be replaced rather than reused.
