LaCie Rugged Mini SSD – 1TB

The LaCie Rugged Mini SSD - 1TB (STMF1000400) combines high-speed USB-C solid-state storage with the compact orange-and-silver Rugged design associated with LaCie's mobile creative-storage range. It is designed for photographers, videographers, editors and other users who need fast portable storage that can travel between workstations and mobile devices.

LaCie specifies read performance up to 2,000MB/s over USB 20Gbps. Actual throughput varies with the host, interface, file type, workload and operating environment.

USB 20Gbps Performance

The Rugged Mini SSD uses USB 20Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2) and can deliver read speeds up to 2,000MB/s when connected to a suitable host. It also operates with compatible USB-C hosts using USB 40Gbps, USB 10Gbps or USB 5Gbps, with performance limited by the connected interface.

USB-C And Thunderbolt Host Compatibility

LaCie lists compatibility with USB-C hosts including USB 40Gbps, USB 20Gbps, USB 10Gbps and USB 5Gbps, as well as Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 3 hosts. The drive itself uses a USB 20Gbps interface; Thunderbolt compatibility does not make it a native Thunderbolt storage device.

IP54 Rugged Protection

With the removable USB port cover properly seated, the enclosure is rated IP54 for protection against dust and splashing water. The IP54 rating does not apply with the cover removed.

Drop And Crush Resistance

LaCie states that Rugged Mini SSD has been tested for drops from heights up to 3 metres in non-operating mode. The manufacturer also specifies one-tonne vehicle crush resistance based on a real-world approximation test in which the drive remained functional despite possible cosmetic damage.

Compact, Bus-Powered Design

The drive measures approximately 105.3 × 66.9 × 17.3mm and weighs around 114g. Power is supplied over the USB connection, so there is no separate power adapter to carry.

Mac, Windows, iPad And iPhone Workflows

LaCie lists plug-and-play USB-C connectivity with Mac, Windows, iPad and iPhone. The drive is supplied in exFAT format for broad cross-platform compatibility; reformatting may be required for specific workflows such as Time Machine.

Eco-Minded Construction

LaCie states that the product contains a minimum of 30% recycled materials by weight, measured across recycled plastic and aluminium.

Warranty And Rescue Services

The Rugged Mini SSD is covered by a three-year limited warranty and includes Rescue Data Recovery Services, subject to Seagate terms and regional availability. LaCie Toolkit is also supported for backup and mirror-folder workflows.
