Areca ARC-1886-8X8I Product Overview
The Areca ARC-1886-8X8I is a PCIe Gen 4.0 tri-mode RAID adapter designed for mixed SAS/SATA/NVMe storage environments that require both protocol flexibility and enterprise-grade data protection.
Built around a Tri-Mode Dual Core ARM A15 1.6GHz ROC and 8GB of on-board DDR4-2666 SDRAM with ECC protection, the ARC-1886-8X8I provides multi-protocol connectivity and hardware RAID acceleration.
Performance
The adapter uses an 8-Lane PCI Express® 4.0 host interface and a Tri-Mode Dual Core ARM A15 1.6GHz ROC to deliver high throughput, with up to 12Gb/s SAS/SATA/Gen 4.0 PCIe (NVMe) data transfer rate per port.
Connectivity
The Areca ARC-1886-8X8I offers 8 x internal and 8 x external ports exposed via 1 x SFF-8654 [x8] and 2 x SFF-8644 [x4] drive connectors, and uses an SFF-9402 compliant connector pin-out.
Drive Support
The adapter supports up to 512 12Gb/s SAS or 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s SAS/SATA HDDs/SSDs when using 12Gb/s SAS expanders, and supports up to 32 NVMe drives through the PCIe switches.
RAID And Data Protection
Supported RAID levels include 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, 30, 50, 60, Single Disk or JBOD; features include RAID 1 multi-mirroring and mirrored pass-through disk, configurable stripe size up to 1MB, write-through/write-back cache modes and controller-level hardware encryption and self-encryption drive management.
Cache And Backup
The card includes 8GB on-board DDR4-2666 SDRAM with ECC protection and supports an optional cache backup module (ARC-1886-CBM) for SuperCap-backed cache protection.
Management And Compatibility
Management is available through McRAID Storage Manager, McRAID Utility, McBIOS Configuration Utility, a command-line interface, API code support and a CIM provider for VMware; host-interface modes include NVMe native drivers and Areca legacy drivers for Windows, multiple Linux distributions, FreeBSD, macOS and VMware ESXi.

The adapter operates from 0 °C to 60 °C at 10% to 85% non-condensing humidity and has a power consumption of approximately 12 Watts.
Cabling And Monitoring
The ARC-1886-8X8I is configured with x8 SFF-8654 internal connectors and supports a range of fan-out cabling options; monitoring and notification features include global HDD activity/fault connector, individual fault connector, LCD/I²C connector and alarm buzzer, SNMP and SMTP.

Areca Technology Delivery Information
In general, next working day delivery services (UK Mainland) are available on Areca equipment orders placed before 2pm (subject to stock availability).
We kindly advise you let us preconfigure each Areca RAID (as RAID5, RAID6 etc), so they arrive properly setup, ready to “plug’n’play”.
This is a free service, and takes 1-2 days prior to shipping.
Non-timed deliveries should be delivered between the hours of 9am and 6pm.
Orders placed after 2pm on Fridays and on weekends will be processed as normal the following Monday.
Orders placed on Bank Holidays will be processed the next working day.
