The Symply LTO-9 Half-Height Drive Upgrade extends the useful life and capacity of compatible Desktop XTH SymplyPRO tape systems without requiring replacement of the complete enclosure. It is supplied as a dedicated SymplyCABLELESS™ drive module, designed to add a second drive where supported or replace an existing compatible drive as requirements change.
Because the module is engineered around Symply’s cable-free backplane architecture, the drive can be inserted or removed without conventional internal data and power cabling. This reduces installation complexity and supports fast serviceability in professional backup, archive and media workflows.
This half-height LTO-9 drive supports 18TB native capacity per cartridge (45TB compressed at the standard 2.5:1 assumption) and a native transfer rate of up to 300MB/s. Symply recommends planning workflows around native rather than compressed performance because real-world compression varies with file type.
LTO-9 and LTO-8 read/write. This generation-specific compatibility is important when planning an upgrade around an existing tape estate, particularly when older cartridges must remain readable or writable.
The drive supports LTFS for file-based access to tape, WORM media for write-once retention requirements, and AES-256 hardware encryption. These capabilities make the upgrade suitable for production archive, backup, compliance and offline air-gapped storage workflows.
SymplyCABLELESS™ eliminates conventional internal cabling between the removable LTO drive module and the compatible enclosure. Symply uses this architecture across its dual-drive desktop and rackmount systems to simplify upgrades, transport and service while reducing potential cable and connector failure points.
SymplyATOM2 is available for supported Symply LTO products on macOS and Windows, providing diagnostics, firmware management and LTFS-related tools. The upgrade includes a data cartridge and is covered by a 3-year manufacturer warranty.
