The Sonnet XMFAN-Q-A Quiet Fan Module Kit provides a lower-noise cooling option for specific xMac mini Server revisions, making it useful in studios and other environments where acoustic output matters.
Sonnet specifies compatibility with Thunderbolt 2 xMac mini Server model XMAC-MS-A with serial revision H or earlier, and Thunderbolt 3 xMac mini Server model XMAC-MS-TB3 with serial revision A. Later specified revisions already incorporate quiet fans.
The module installs in place of the existing fan assembly to reduce system fan noise while maintaining cooling for suitable PCIe card configurations.
Because the quiet fan configuration moves less air than the higher-airflow assembly, Sonnet advises checking cooling requirements for heat-intensive PCIe cards. High-heat SAS RAID/HBA, Fibre Channel and 10Gb Ethernet cards may require the higher-airflow fan configuration.
