The Sonnet Echo III Desktop Thunderbolt 5 is a professional three-slot desktop PCIe expansion chassis designed to add PCIe connectivity to compatible Mac, Windows and Linux computers through Thunderbolt.
The ECHO-3D-T5 is the Thunderbolt 5 version of Sonnet's Echo III Desktop platform, combining support for three full-length PCIe cards with a high-capacity internal power supply, quiet temperature-controlled cooling and professional card compatibility.
The Echo III Desktop provides three PCIe 3.1 slots: one x8 mechanical slot with x8 electrical connectivity, one x16 mechanical slot with x8 electrical connectivity and one x8 mechanical slot with x4 electrical connectivity. The chassis supports three full-height, full-length, single-width cards, or one double-width card plus one single-width card.
The system supports Thunderbolt-compatible, non-GPU PCIe cards including professional video capture and transcoding hardware, audio DSP cards, SAS and SATA host bus adapters, Ethernet adapters, SSD storage cards and other specialist PCIe devices. PCIe 4.0, 3.x, 2.0 and 1.1 cards are supported subject to Thunderbolt compatibility.
The ECHO-3D-T5 is Sonnet's Thunderbolt 5 version of the Echo III Desktop. The chassis provides two Thunderbolt ports, allowing one port to connect to the host computer while the second can be used for compatible downstream Thunderbolt peripherals.
An integrated universal 400W power supply provides power for installed PCIe cards. A 6-pin auxiliary PCIe power connection can provide up to 75W of supplemental power for compatible cards that require it.
A dedicated HDX compatibility mode enables use of up to three Avid Pro Tools HDX PCIe cards. When HDX mode is enabled, the PCIe slots operate in PCIe 2.0 mode.
Dual variable-speed Noctua fans automatically adjust their speed according to internal temperature. Sonnet rates the cooling system at approximately 17 dBA, making the chassis suitable for recording, broadcast and other noise-sensitive environments.
The Echo III Desktop powers on and off automatically with the connected computer, eliminating the need for a separate chassis power switch during normal operation.
