Glyph Atom EX40 – 4TB

The Glyph Atom EX40 4TB is the 40Gbps USB4 member of Glyph's high-intensity Atom EX portable SSD family. It combines high-bandwidth NVMe storage with a rugged, thermally efficient enclosure for creators who need sustained performance during large transfers and intensive direct-from-drive workflows.

With transfer speeds up to 4,000MB/s on supported hosts, the EX40 is positioned for multi-stream 8K/12K video, oversized RAW photo and video files, VFX timelines, VR projects, fast media backup and other production workloads where both bandwidth and sustained behaviour matter.

Up To 4,000MB/s Over USB4

The EX40 uses a USB4 Type-C interface with up to 40Gbps link bandwidth. Glyph specifies read and write speeds up to 4,000MB/s, providing substantially more headroom than conventional 10Gbps and 20Gbps portable SSD connections.

Host Interface Determines Real-World Speed

Glyph specifies up to 3,500MB/s on Apple Silicon Macs using Thunderbolt 3 or 4, and up to 4,000MB/s on Apple Silicon Thunderbolt 5 systems, USB4 40Gbps PCs and Thunderbolt 4 PCs. Intel Mac or PC Thunderbolt 3 connections and ordinary 10Gbps USB-C connections operate in a 10Gbps USB mode with speeds up to 1,050MB/s.

SteadyIO For Sustained Production Work

Glyph's Atom EX family uses SteadyIO technology to deliver consistent, uninterrupted read and write speeds during extended transfers. The design is aimed at production workloads such as long card dumps, full-day backups and direct-from-drive editing where sustained throughput matters more than a brief benchmark peak.

Increased Thermal Ceiling

A solid aluminium core and outer shell conduct heat away from internal components. Combined with fanless heat dissipation, this passive design is intended to support higher sustained speeds and reliability without adding fan noise or another moving part.

The aluminium exo-skeleton is paired with a soft composite bumper and carries a MIL-Standard 810F rating for shock, vibration and dust resistance, making the EX40 well suited to production kits, mobile workstations and location workflows.

Glyph includes real-time integrated health monitoring, adding useful visibility into drive condition for professionals relying on the SSD as active project and production storage.

Broad USB And Thunderbolt Compatibility

The USB4 Type-C interface is compatible with USB 3.1 and USB 3.0 as well as Thunderbolt 3, 4 and 5 hosts, subject to the performance limits of the connected port. The drive is supplied formatted for macOS and can be reformatted for Windows.

Bus-Powered Portable Design

The EX40 draws power from the host connection, eliminating the need for an external power supply. Its compact 2.8 x 4.5 x 0.8-inch enclosure is supplied with a 30cm USB4 Type-C to Type-C cable and a rugged removable external cover.

Professional 3-2-1 Warranty

Glyph backs the Atom EX40 with three years of full hardware coverage, including the supplied cable, two years of Level-1 data recovery and one year of advance replacement. Glyph also states that the Atom EX range is designed, tested and assembled in the USA.
