G-Drive G-RAID Shuttle 8 – 160TB

The G-RAID SHUTTLE 8 160TB is an eight-bay transportable hardware RAID for workflows that need very large local capacity together with flexible RAID protection and high-bandwidth host connectivity.

Its combination of removable enterprise-class drives, hardware RAID and dual Thunderbolt 3 makes it particularly well suited to multi-stream video work, large shared project sets, consolidated backup and high-capacity nearline production storage.

Eight Removable Ultrastar Enterprise Drives

Eight removable 7200rpm Ultrastar enterprise-class hard drives provide the storage foundation. The removable modules simplify individual-drive servicing, while the enterprise-class mechanisms are designed for sustained professional workloads.

Hardware RAID For Capacity, Performance Or Protection

The enclosure ships in RAID 5 and supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, RAID 50, RAID 60 and JBOD. This provides a wide choice between maximum usable capacity, mirrored or parity-based protection, and striped multi-array configurations appropriate to larger eight-drive workloads.

RAID 6, 50 And 60 For Larger Arrays

The eight-bay platform adds RAID modes that are especially useful at this scale. RAID 6 provides dual-parity protection, while RAID 50 and RAID 60 stripe data across multiple RAID groups to combine higher aggregate performance with parity-based resilience.

Thunderbolt 3 For High-Bandwidth Production

Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports provide a 40Gb/s host interface and support daisy-chaining of up to five additional Thunderbolt devices, helping keep complex edit and post-production workstations connected through a compact cable topology.

USB-C Compatibility

USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 compatibility provides up to a 10Gb/s USB-C interface for suitable USB hosts, adding flexibility when the array needs to move between Thunderbolt and non-Thunderbolt systems.

Performance Appropriate To The Selected RAID Mode

Transfer performance depends on RAID mode, host hardware, workload and installed capacity. Western Digital's current family sheet publishes a headline transfer figure specifically for the 208TB model, so no unsupported capacity-specific speed is claimed for this 160TB version.

Transportable Design For Studio And Location

The large enclosure includes an integrated carry handle for moving the array between work areas and production locations. It uses mains power and is intended as transportable professional storage rather than a lightweight portable drive.

Mac And Windows Workflows

The system supports macOS 11 or later and is Time Machine compatible. Windows 10 or later is supported after reformatting, making it suitable for mixed-platform facilities where the array format is chosen for the intended host environment.
