Its USB4 40Gb/s architecture is designed to maximise performance on suitable USB4 and Thunderbolt-equipped systems while retaining compatibility with supported lower-bandwidth USB-C hosts.
This exact OWCUS4EXP1MT04 configuration is supplied with a 4TB OWC NVMe M.2 SSD installed, providing a complete high-capacity storage solution without requiring separate drive installation.
OWC specifies Express 1M2 real-world performance of up to 3836MB/s on a suitable USB4 40Gb/s or Thunderbolt 4 PC host. Actual throughput varies with host platform, workload and connection type.
The Express 1M2 works with USB4, Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 and supported USB-C devices. Connection speed automatically adapts to the capabilities of the attached host.
The solid aluminium enclosure forms part of the cooling system, dissipating heat from the installed NVMe SSD without a fan and helping maintain consistent performance during sustained transfers.
Power and data are supplied through the USB-C connection, so no external power adapter is required. OWC includes a 0.3m USB-C 40Gb/s cable.
With 4TB of installed NVMe storage, high throughput and silent operation, the Express 1M2 is well suited to high-resolution video editing, DIT media offloads, photography libraries, scratch storage, backup and other data-intensive workflows.
