The OWC Express 1M2 is a portable USB4 40Gb/s enclosure for a single NVMe M.2 SSD, designed for high-performance external storage with broad USB-C and Thunderbolt compatibility.

The OWC Express 1M2 provides a compact, high-performance way to turn a compatible NVMe M.2 SSD into portable USB4 storage. This OWCUS4EXP1M2 version is supplied as an enclosure without an SSD, allowing an existing drive to be repurposed or a new drive to be selected to suit the required capacity and performance.
Its USB4 40Gb/s interface is designed to maximise the performance available from modern Macs and PCs while retaining compatibility with a wide range of Thunderbolt and USB-C systems.
Up To 3836MB/s USB4 Performance
The Express 1M2 connects through a USB4 40Gb/s USB-C host port. OWC specifies real-world performance of up to 3836MB/s, with actual speed determined by the installed SSD, host system and connection type.
Flexible NVMe M.2 SSD Support
The enclosure supports single- and double-sided NVMe M.2 SSDs in 2230, 2242 and 2280 form factors. PCIe Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5 NVMe SSDs are supported, although drives fitted with their own heatsinks cannot be installed.
Passive Aluminium Cooling
The solid aluminium enclosure incorporates OWC's heatsink design to dissipate heat from the installed SSD without a cooling fan. The SSD makes thermal contact with the enclosure through the internal thermal interface, helping maintain sustained performance during demanding transfers.
Broad Host Compatibility
The Express 1M2 works with USB4 and Thunderbolt-equipped Macs and PCs as well as compatible USB-C devices. Connection speed automatically adapts to the capabilities of the host, with lower-bandwidth USB-C connections operating at their supported speed.
Bus-Powered Portable Design
Power and data are supplied through the USB-C connection, so no external power adapter is required. OWC includes a 0.3m USB-C 40Gb/s cable with the enclosure.
User-Installable Storage
The enclosure is secured with screws rather than a tool-free snap-fit design. OWC supplies a screwdriver with the enclosure and provides installation instructions for fitting and replacing the NVMe SSD.

OWC Delivery Information
Generally, next working day delivery services (UK Mainland) are available on standard OWC Delivery orders placed before 2 pm (subject to stock availability).
Non-timed deliveries should be delivered between 9 am and 6 pm.
Orders placed after 2 pm on Fridays and weekends will be processed as normal the following Monday.
Orders placed on Bank Holidays will be processed the next working day.
