OWC Express 4M2 Ultra is a four‑slot Thunderbolt 5 NVMe M.2 enclosure offered as a 0TB bare unit with SoftRAID not included. It is designed for professionals who want a DIY NVMe RAID platform that takes full advantage of Thunderbolt 5 bandwidth.

The chassis supports PCIe 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 NVMe M.2 drives and scales from a single enclosure up to larger unified volumes by daisy chaining additional units.

Maximum Performance

Thunderbolt 5 (80Gb/s) connectivity delivers up to 6622MB/s real‑world speed when populated with PCIe 4.0 and later SSDs. When connected to Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 systems, speeds reach up to 3200MB/s, and Thunderbolt 3 hosts can achieve up to 2800MB/s.

Drive Compatibility and Capacity

Supports four NVMe M.2 2242 or 2280 SSDs, single or double‑sided, and accepts PCIe 3.0 / 4.0 / 5.0 SSDs. The enclosure accepts up to 8.0TB per drive for up to 32TB total in one unit and can expand up to 128TB as a single volume by daisy chaining additional Express 4M2 Ultra units.

RAID And Software

The unit supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 10 and JBOD via OWC SoftRAID or other RAID utilities; SoftRAID is compatible but not included with this 0TB SKU.

Connectivity And Expansion

Provides two Thunderbolt 5 (80Gb/s) ports. The second Thunderbolt 5 port allows daisy chaining of up to five additional Thunderbolt devices plus one USB peripheral for expanded capacity and connectivity.

The solid aircraft‑grade aluminum body delivers passive cooling and rugged protection, while a smart adaptive fan activates only during sustained workloads to avoid unnecessary noise.
