The G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 24TB combines four enterprise-class hard drives, built-in hardware RAID and high-bandwidth Thunderbolt connectivity in a transportable enclosure aimed at demanding creative workflows.
It is suited to consolidated project storage, ingest, backup and real-time media work where large capacity, removable drive modules and flexible RAID configuration are more important than the portability of a single-drive desktop disk.
Four removable 7200rpm Ultrastar enterprise-class hard drives provide the storage foundation. The removable modules make individual drives serviceable while the enterprise-class mechanisms are designed for sustained professional workloads.
The enclosure ships configured as RAID 5, balancing usable capacity with parity protection. RAID 0 can prioritise capacity and throughput without redundancy; RAID 1 mirrors data; RAID 10 combines striping and mirroring; and JBOD can present disks without a striped or mirrored RAID set.
Two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide a 40Gb/s host interface and allow up to five additional Thunderbolt devices to be daisy-chained from the storage system, helping simplify high-performance desktop and edit-suite connections.
USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 compatibility provides up to a 10Gb/s USB-C interface for suitable non-Thunderbolt hosts. This gives the Shuttle 4 useful flexibility when moving between different workstations.
Transfer performance depends on RAID mode, host hardware, workload and installed capacity. Western Digital's current family sheet publishes a headline transfer figure specifically for the 96TB model, so no unsupported capacity-specific speed is claimed for this 24TB version.
A built-in carry handle makes the four-bay enclosure easier to move between edit rooms, studios and location environments. The system uses mains power and is intended as transportable professional storage rather than a bus-powered portable drive.
The system supports macOS 11 or later and is Time Machine compatible. Windows 10 or later is supported after reformatting, allowing the array to be prepared for the required platform and workflow.
